Landscapes: Pizza Cooking and Garden |
3rd
– 4th Grade: Pizza Garden
In the spring as third
graders the students meet with the Learning
Landscapes staff in the outdoor classroom/garden
to discuss the ingredients they need to “grow a
pizza.” Students prepare the soil in the garden
using the compost they made in the fall “Soil
and Compost” program. Each student receives a
plant to add to the school garden. When students
return in the fall as fourth graders they return
to the garden to harvest, sort and weigh their
produce. With the help of a local pizzeria
students make pizza dough and sauce. Students
then cook pizza in the school cafeteria where
they get to enjoy the fruits of their labor.
