Healthy Families~Family Farms

With money raised from contributions through partnerships with local churches and civic groups, the Healthy Families~Family Farms program purchases organic produce at a discounted price from ASD's Appalachian Harvest farmers. It is then distributed by Feeding America in Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee (formerly Second Harvest Food Bank) to many community food pantries.

Healthy Families-Family Farms (HFFF) has been feeding the hungry and supporting local farmers since 2004.  Donations to this unique program enable HFFF:

•  to purchase good quality “seconds” at a

  discounted price from ASD’s Appalachian Harvest       network of farmers, helping the growers to not take    a loss on their crops

•  to give this fresh, nutritious food at no cost to the     Feeding America Food Bank which in turn

•  distributes the healthy produce and eggs free of     charge to local food pantries

Every dollar raised triples its value- $50 buys 150 pounds of food! $100 buys 300 pounds of food! This exciting program makes a great difference in the lives of many!

Healthy Families-Family Farms partners with churches, community and civic groups, individuals, and businesses to raise money to support the program.  With other local groups and agencies, HFFF promotes the health benefits of a diet rich in vegetables and fruits. Cooking demonstrations and food tastings are held at food pantries to encourage families to eat well and enjoy fresh produce.
